A wonderful Easter break I must say. Cockatoo Island was fantastic, got lots of photos, some of those on the blog are just a taste. Me, JP, Ben and Haley all drove down on Friday and were back Saturday night. Justine scored well with the hotel she organised.... about 5 mins walk from Circular Quay which was where we had to go to catch the ferry over to Cockatoo. My brother and a mate of his came down on the Sat arvo to see Gomez so it was good to catch up with them. Hilltop Hoods were fcuking brilliant, The Beautiful Girls put on a fine show as did MGF as always. Saw the Waifs as well on Friday for a while. Gomez on the Sat were tops, the acoustics in the place were not the best and because we didn't get as close as the other shows, it did not sound as good but the atmosphere was wild. When we got up closer for some of the other bands like Hilltop Hoods, it was tops. The hoods know how to put on performance, gotta love Australian Hip Hop.
It was a really laidback atmosphere around the whole place, a real diversity of age groups, not over crowded in any way yet still shitloads of people. the whole site used to be a convict prison until 1908 when they opened Long Bay Gaol. It was then turning into a navy shipbuilding yard until that closed in the early 90's. They used most of the buildings and existing infrastructure.
I went nuts with the merchandise as usual.... the Gomez shirt I wore on Sunday.... a Monkey magic t-shirt and of course my favourite..... the "John Hunt is a Coward" shirt. Way too good to refuse that one. It seemed to catch everyone's eye, lots of people laughing or giving me the thumbs up. I'd have to rate the intelligence level of the crowd because I only had 3 people the whole time ask me who John Hunt was...... and one of them was Irish and hadn't been in Australia long. Now I will do the American Hollywood method, leave nothing to the imagination and spell out every joke for the dimwits....."John Howard (the Australian Prime Minister) is a cunt and a coward"
